About Our Master
Master Rigan Machado is an 8th degree red and black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (gentle art). He earned his rank under the founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Carlos Gracie Sr. Professor Rigan began training at the early age of 5 with his cousins, “The Gracie Family”. At the age of 14, he began training everyday; his training sessions were very technical and intense under his two instructors, Rolls Gracie and Carlos Gracie Sr. Professor Machado also began competing at the world championship level earning his legendary stature there. From the age of 14 through 21, he won the World Championship every year and in every belt division. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu he amassed a record of 365 wins, and created a record by having 19 matches in one day and finishing all of them by submission.
The Machados philosophy is not to prove or impose their system onto other styles or martial artists. Their main concern is to share what they have, always with their minds open for new ideas. This attitude has helped the Machados to establish themselves in the martial arts community and given them many friends and followers.
Their attitude of balance is reflected not only in the way they fight, but also in the healthy lifestyle they have adopted since childhood. The Machado brothers (Rigan, Carlos, Roger, Jean Jacques, and John) remain very close and are a great example of how family is important.
